On Saturday, March 31st the Checkmates put on a performance to remember and raised $55,000 for Halo House. It was a packed house, with over 300 attendees and MD Anderson Cancer Center President Dr. Peter Pisters even got up on stage and did a song with the band. This unique band of MDA doctors and friends includes world-renowned immunologist Dr. Jim Allison on vocals and blues harp as well as Dr. Greg Lizee (drums), Dr. Anthony Lucci (guitar), Dr. Tony Conley (bass), Dr. Scott Woodman (lead vocals), Nina Boulton (vocals), Dr. Patrick Hwu (keyboard), Dr. Powel Brown (trumpet), Scott Krueger (trombone), and Dr. Ferran Prat (sax).
